“Recovery.gov is a website that lets you, the taxpayer, figure out where the money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is going. There are going to be a few different ways to search for information. The money is being distributed by Federal agencies, and soon you’ll be able to see where it’s going – to which states, to which congressional districts, even to which Federal contractors.”

Robert S. Cameron has created a very thorough work on this topic; tanks and their emergence in the U.S. Army. Cameron has included practically anything one would want to know about armor units for the United States in WWI and WWII, with chapters ranging from their transportation to battle as well as more specific topics. The author has also included many pictures, charts, and maps that will help the reader comprehend this subject much more easily. This book is great for anyone who needs to learn more about WWI and WWII armor units from the United States perspective, as well as anyone who just wants to learn more about tanks in general.

According to the press release, the report “examines the Nation’s state
of preparedness and response capabilities in the event of a pandemic
influenza outbreak. It identifies sixteen weaknesses in the outgoing
Bush Administration’s approach to get prepared for pandemic influenza.
In addition, the report provides fifteen critical recommendations for
what Congress, the incoming Administration, and the public and private
sectors can do to achieve National readiness to combat this threat.”

The 2008 edition of the United States Government Policy and Supporting Positions, commonly known as the Plum Book, is now available from the U.S. Government Printing Office.

Alternately prepared after each Presidential election by the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs and the House Committee on Government Reform, the Plum Book provides comprehensive information on thousands of Federal civil service leadership and support positions in the legislative and executive branches of the Federal  government that may be subject to noncompetitive appointment, nationwide. It provides a current list of data, which includes the following major categories of positions:

*  Executive Schedule and salary-equivalent positions paid at the rates
established for levels I through V of the Executive Schedule;
*  Senior Executive service “General” positions;
*  Senior Foreign Service positions;
*  Schedule C positions excepted from the competitive service by the
President, or by the Director, Office of Personnel Management, because
of the confidential or policy-determining nature of the position duties;
*  Other positions at the GS-14 and above level excepted from the
competitive service by law because of the confidential or
policy-determining nature of the position duties.

The Plum Book also provides information on SES appointments. Additionally, appendices provide information on the positions listed and the Federal salary schedules under which they are paid.

GPO has refined the 2008 Plum Book by adding bookmarks to it and optimizing it for the web.
